SHOOTER PROFILE BY JARROD SPILGER Dan Bailey I t could be said that Dan Baileys road to winning the 2018 National FITASC Championship actually began some 40 years ago Thats when at age 10 young Dan went on his first rabbit hunt with his father Four years later Dans dad introduced his teenage son to trap shooting jump starting a lifetime of shooting and hunting that has morphed from a casual hobby into a full time career We didnt have a lot of money growing up so once a month my dad would take me to the local trap field and allow me to shoot two rounds of trap Dan reflected I got hooked on clay target shooting but it wasnt until later in life that I was invited to try sporting clays Sporting clays became much more fun for me to shoot so I focused on it and eventually tried FITASC said Dan Trying FITASC proved to be a pivotal decision My favorite discipline by far is FITASC he admitted FITASC targets tend to be further away and more difficult Plus there isnt as much target repetition There are far more target presentations from one FITASC peg than youd ever see at a single sporting clays station I often tell others that sporting clays is just something to do while waiting to shoot FITASC Dan said with a chuckle Like many of us Dan started out with a single shot in his case a 20 gauge Ithaca and then graduated to his first real target shotgun a 12 gauge Beretta 390 Today he uses a 12 gauge Zoli Besides 12 gauge FITASC Dan also dabbles in small gauge FITASC and sporting clays events Hes been shooting competitively for about 18 years and is sponsored by Promatic and Zoli USA Dan is married to his best friend Peggy and the couple has two dogs a Staffordshire bull terrier named ironically Bailey and a Chesapeake Bay retriever named Hunter He enjoys wa 18 WWW NSSA NSCA ORG DECEMBER 2018 terfowl hunting deer hunting and fishing on his lake in Ohio Ive been fortunate to be a part of the All State Team and All American Team in both sporting and FITASC Dan noted Ive won various tournaments big and small but most recently won the 2018 National FITASC Championship at the Side X Side Ranch Shooting and shooting competitively has been a challenge this past year Dan confessed With buying building and opening a q Last year Dan opened a club Eagles Nest Sporting Grounds near Mount Gilead Ohio DANS GEAR SHOTGUN Zoli Z Extra with 34 inch barrels AMMO Winchester Light Handicap 1 ounce 7 s at 1290 fps CHOKES Custom Titanium Badovick Chokes EAR PROTECTION Custom molded earplugs EYEWEAR Decot VEST Rio Castellani MUST HAVE EQUIPMENT Eye drops for dry eyes
