Clay Target Nation, August 2019
Claytons Crazy Clays Up the fun factor at your club with this challenging twist on sporting clays Y ou shot the wrong target So what part of AUGUST 2019 CLAY TARGET NATION 55 BY CLAYTON M RUE NSCA LEVEL III INSTRUCTOR this do you not understand Its not my fault These statements arent the kind of things you hear every day on a sporting clays course But you will hear them if you are shooting a game that I call Claytons Crazy Clays Crazy Clays is a game I came up with to provide our local shooters with an alternative format for fun shoots It is a clay target game that is shot purely for fun and the targets cannot be registered It is a game that may not help you become a better shooter but I can guarantee that you will have more fun shooting it than you have had in a long time As competitive shooters we tend to take ourselves way too seriously We compete seriously We practice seriously We act seriously But sometimes we just need to let loose and have some serious fun After all isnt that why we got into this sport to have fun And if we can remember how to have fun we just might find ourselves shooting better Claytons Crazy Clays is shot as a two person team event Each shooter attempts 100 targets for a maximum combined team score of 200 That doesnt sound so exciting but what makes this game unique is that both shooters are usually required to shoot simultaneously at a flurry of targets And that is just the beginning As the target setter I intentionally set up the targets and the associated rules for engaging them to require maximum cooperation and introduce maximum conflict between the teammates My game my rules Some rules that do apply to every station 1 Shooters must obey all normally accepted and posted safety rules 2 Each shooter is allowed a maximum of two shells in his gun at any time 3 You are required to heckle the team in front of you Get the idea Let me show you a few examples of p Regular sporting clays is terrific but you can add a more competitive element with Claytons Crazy Clays game
