SKEET EVENT COVERAGE CONTRIBUTED BY NSSA MEMBERS 2019 NSSA World Vintage Shoot Held At Powder Creek T he 19th Annual Vintage Skeet Championships were held on March 2 5 at Powder Creek Shooting Park located in Lenexa Kansas The Vintage Skeet game resembles the usual skeet game only shot using the rules circa 1935 featuring a delayed 0 3 second target release and a low gun starting position Guns could not be pre mounted when the shooter called for the target but had to remain off the shoulder until the target emerged from the trap house Competitors were limited to either a pump gun or side by side shotgun of any vintage or manufacture No automatics or over and under shotguns were permitted in the competition in keeping with the vintage theme Skeet events were offered in the four recognized skeet gauges as well as Doubles at all stations Also 16 gauge only events were offered for our hardcore 16 gauge fans Side game competition was offered in Sliding Trap 5 Stand Sporting and the CZ Field Gun Challenge on sporting clays This shoot was an NSSA event 6 tournament open to both members and non members of the NSSA Shooters of all skill levels had a chance to win awards thanks to the Lewis Class system that leveled the playing field for all competitors in this non registered competition Side by side fans shot against others of like skill For NSSA members targets were counted towards their lifetime target count but didnt impact their current regular skeet averages or classifications CZ USA Firearms was our title sponsor and provided nine shotguns for this event Two guns a day were given away during the four day long event 62 WWW NSSA NSCA ORG AUGUST 2019 with the exception of three on the last day Thanks for all the support from David Miller along with Daniel Holder and Neale Flynn of CZ USA Thursday was day one of the competition and was reserved for 16 gauge competition as well as an open Doubles Skeet Championship Thursday winners were Doubles Skeet First place David Miller second Dave Blomeyer third Carl Hill 16 Gauge Skeet First place Kevin Brooks second Ralph D Gates third Rick Staples 16 Gauge 5 Stand First place Ralph D Gates second John Malnar third Carl Hill 16 Gauge Trap First place Rick Staples second Kevin Brooks third Ralph D Gates Friday was reserved for 410 bore and 28 gauge skeet as well as 28 gauge side games Fridays winners were 28 Gauge Skeet First place Carl Hill second Kevin Brooks third Rick Staples 28 Gauge Trap First place Monty Murphy second Joe Bazin third Ralph D Gates 410 Skeet First place Carl Hill second Rick Staples third Kevin Brooks 410 5 Stand First place Dennis Horner second Larry Drahota third Monty Murphy Saturday was the third day of the tournament with competition in 20 gauge skeet plus all the side games Winners were 20 Gauge Skeet First place Richard Dale second Carl Hill third Rick Staples 20 Gauge 5 Stand First place Ralph Gates second Carl Hill third Craig McMichael 20 Gauge Trap First place Kevin Brooks second Richard Dale third Arron Heinerikson Sunday was the final day of the NSSAs annual Vintage Skeet Championships At stake were the 12 gauge title and multiple concurrent events including the HOA titles Game Gun Handicap and Hammer Gun Handicap 12 gauge winners were 12 Gauge 5 Stand First place Craig McMichael second David Miller third Rick Staples 12 Gauge Trap First place Kevin Brooks second Sam Heinerikson third David Miller 12 Gauge Skeet First place Monty Murphy second Rick Staples third David Blomeyer A total of 336 rounds were entered during the event and just over 17000 targets were attempted We saw participants from six states We would like to thank all who participated and look forward to seeing you all again and many more for the 20th year of the World Vintage Thanks also to the volunteers who helped with pulling and scoring for the event and to Linda DuCote for the professional drawings and scoring of the event Sponsors for the World Vintage included CZ USA Mike Egan J Ron Inc Connecticut Shotgun Mfg Co Rudolph Foods and White Flyer Contributed by Kevin Danciak
