FROM THE NSSA NSCA COMPILED BY NSSA NSCA STAFF HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM FORT WORTH TEXAS A llow me to open the new year with heartfelt thanks and admiration for Don Kelly U S Navy Vet John Haugh U S Army Vet and Jim Tiner U S Army Ret for their sustained leadership through some of the most challenging times our association and the globe for that matter has navigated Clearly we all have been impacted by COVID 19 which is a term we all want to see in our rearview mirror but we have a few more miles remaining on this journey I highlight Don as our 2019 2020 President John as Past President in the same term and Jim Tiner who served two terms as Zone 4 Committeeman These members are exemplars reflecting the quality of volunteer leaders who are emblematic of the 134 NSSA volunteer Directors and 136 NSCA Delegates who donate their time and most importantly their business and organizational acumen to help steer our association John is not going anywhere as he will co chair the Finance Committee with one of our most valuable leaders Louise Terry Don will serve as Past President supervising and collaborating with the officers and Executive Committee Jim Tiner will continue his faithful service in Zone 4 North Carolina the World Shoot and anywhere he and wife Belinda can support our association Please join me in welcoming the newly elected officers of NSSA and NSCA for the 2021 2022 term NSSA President Chris Naler TX Vice President Steve Malcom Canada Secretary Treasurer Tom Pavlack MI Past President Don Kelly WI NSCA Chairman Brett Seibert North Central Region 1st Vice Chair Tim Miles West Region 2nd Vice Chair Russ Arnold South Central Region Secretary Joe Fasulo Southeast Region Parliamentarian Mark Baltazar Northeast Region Past Chairman John Commerford As we begin our target season I am cautiously optimistic that the last quarter of 2020 demonstrated how our two clay sports can enjoy competition while honoring each others health and well being as we observe protocols and protect each other and those that support us Lets continue this for 2021 The protocols we published in April 2020 are still in effect for the National Shooting Complex and recommended for our 1100 member clubs with the most important clause of observe your local city or state guidelines A few changes at NSSA NSCA headquarters This month 8 WWW NSSA NSCA ORG JANUARY 2021 CFO Director of Finance Steve Scales takes a well earned retirement after 17 years of service to our organization Steves steady hand has guided us through at least two major economic crises the 2008 2009 recession and 2020 pandemic to ensure that we sustained operations and were compliant Please join me in thanking Steve for his valuable leadership and wishing him the best in his retirement His jovial and genuine character will be missed Also we have consolidated our member and club services under the trusted direction of Amber Schwarz a long time employee whose knowledge and experience are deep We are striving to gain efficiencies within our dedicated NSSA NSCA employees We will debut our new proprietary database supporting our records members member clubs and overall archiving as we activate our new system Our upgraded system will be transparent to most of you but this capital investment is a significant modernization project that will be the primary IT system our NSSA staff will use on a daily basis This year we will see the two NSSA inaugural events the Triple J Classic which will occur on March 11 14 at the National Shooting Complex and the Kolar U S Open iShoot June 25 27 which will be hosted at 10 clubs across the nation The goal of the Kolar U S Open is to bring a top tier event to you We had more than 20 clubs request to participate in the inaugural event and we selected 10 clubs with the overall goal to minimize travel and host a premier NSSA shoot near you In 2020 we had approximately 800 shooters register for the event that had to be postponed and we anticipate similar or higher numbers for 2021 The USA Sporting Clays and FITASC Teams along with other NSCA members will participate in the World FITASC Championship in Hungary and the World English Championship in England both in July NSCA is debuting a new classification for registered events specific to the sub gauges NSCA will also offer a Legacy concurrent for shooters 80 years old and older In closing thank you for supporting your local clubs leagues and registered events in 2020 I am optimistic that 2021 will present more opportunities for all of us to return to our clubs and start breaking clays improving our shots and introducing both friends and family to our clays culture Semper Fi Chris Naler
